Is Submitting Articles a Waste of Time?
Huy guys and gals - can you all tell me your opinion. Is writing and submitting articles to hundreds of article directories a waste of time? I have been writng a few travel articles and submitting them to try to boost my visitors and backlinks but now seem to have got into problems with Google supplemental results even some new original content I have written for my site (and not published elsewhere) has been dumped into the supplementals. I have studied some of the people who submit hundreds of articles (top authors on the article sites) to hundreds of sites (they must use some submission software as they have tens of thousands of articles published)and I have checked the backlinks to their websites and they don't seem to have any (or at least very few), so what are all those articles achieving? I am now writing separate articles for submitting and considering only posting them on one top site so at least I get one decent link, but then of course others use the article and it becomes duplicate content once again.

iam not sure if article can help the site gain backlinks because i think not all article submission sites have a "do follow links" but i do believe that articles can help the site gain visitors because article writing is a form of promotions.

I usually use the old adage that "Any press is good press." As long as your name is in front of people, you are getting attention ... make it work for you.

Yeah.. Rather submit only in a high traffic article directories only. EzineArticles is a very good place to syndicate your article. I think their backlinks value is not that big. Just submit them for driving traffic for your site.

For article submission to be very effective, I encourage you to submit unique articles to the article directories.
This is how I do it:
1)Write 1 article
2)Get an article spinner. You can find some online for FREE. Don't use automated spinner though as the article can become unreadable. You can spin the article into a few hundred versions.
3)Submit only 1 version of the article to each directory. This way, you will have hundreds of links back to your site and those links will not be devalued as the links are on unique articles.
This way, you will have hundreds of links and not to mention the traffic!
Another alternative, write 2 articles. 1 just for ezinearticles and the other one to be spinned and to be submitted to hundreds of directories. For the article to be submitted to ezinearticles, choose a keyword whereby the competition is not too strong and has good traffics. Your article will appear on the first or second page of SERP in a week or 2. This way, the traffic to that ezinearticle article will be siphoned out to your site.
The second article is used mainly to generate backlinks.
Now that your articles is all over the directories, it will get picked up and be published on someone else's site. More backlinks!
Now, that's how you solve your traffic and backlink woos.
Hope that helped.

Submitting articles
I totally agree with you, ezine is a good article directory to submit your articles . About the article spinner, I haven't used that software , i write different unique articles and submit them manually. I find it very effective too..
Ill try to experiment the article spinner one of these days. thank you for the tip.

Choose some article directories with PR4+ when you submit your articles and see if it doesn't have no follow on links.. I'm sure it will help you to gain backlinks.

Between articles and blogs
I think article submission consumes a lot of time. articles need to be unique. then they need to be approved. then search engines has to crawl them. again serach engines has to mark them as unique. a long and cumbersome process. with no guarantee of any inclusion or traffic. blogs are better i think

Submit your article to those quality sites and directory. Ezine and GoArticles are samples of a good article site. For me, it is not a waste of time, as long as you have a unique and interesting article. Article submission is also a great source of fruitful link. Just don't submit to bad neighborhood sites.
