Looking for a legitimate short-list of business directories

There are so many threads on this. I really wasn't sure who to believe.

My company designs online CRM for the financial services industry, so I am trying to increase organic traffic to our site (I absolutely hate AdWords).

Anyway, does anyone have a short list of the best (and most legitimate) business directories out there? I am not going to do some mass registration to 1000 directories because I am not looking for that kind of popularity, or to get black listed by Google.

yup DMOZ is one of the most reliable online directory, and it is affiliated with google

I was just wondering if there were any other major directories out there that I didn't know about.

Try to visit this site directorycritic.com.. It's very useful and you can also see the PR of each directory.

Thanks, khat. Much appreciated. It just seems like most of those directories they promote are on the shady side. Oh well, I will proceed cautiously.
