Pimpen2010, your site was rejected and will NOT be listed in the ZEAL directory. The reason specified by the editor was that your site is of 'commercial' nature. I sought clarification and this is what the editor said:

For example, the topmost review is a wildly laudatory review of DVD Wizard Pro. Scroll down, and there's an "UPDATE" that mentions that the reviewer has finally tried the software...after writing the review.

One of the selection criteria is :
--> Feature working links, not be under construction, and load in a reasonable amount of time.
I am afraid your 'PC section' features a broken link for 'Game Making Tutorial'.
Please correct it and inform me.
|
That error has been corrected. The "Game Making Tutorial" link now works on every page in the "PC" section.

I have more then 8 reviews. Most reviews are being re-written with the new site.
What does he mean feature changes? From previous versions?
DVD Wizard Pro is first because it goes in alphabetical order, not sure how he didn't notice that And that was a review from a friend, so then I tried it myself and added the update...?
How is this a commercial site? The links and ad is to pretty much run the site? I don't sell anything, and I don't sell any services or anything at all.

I forwarded your questions again to the Zeal editor who rejected your site. This is what he had to say :
Quote:
>What does he mean feature changes? From previous versions?
Yes, that's what I meant.
>I have more then 8 reviews. Most reviews are being re-written with the new site.
My count was 16 when I looked this morning, as I posted then.
>DVD Wizard Pro is first because it goes in alphabetical order, not sure how he didn't notice that.
Sorry if there was confusion about my comment, in which I'd meant to focus on the review's content compared to other reviews. Not how they were ordered. Sorry.
>How is this a commercial site? The links and ad is to pretty much run the site? I don't sell anything, and I don't sell any services or anything at all.
Again, it was my assessment that there are a lot of commercial links here, and that the site is in violation of our guidelines on commercial content, to which I've linked in my previous post. I still feel strongly that my original response was correct.
|
I am afraid that's the end of it. (Since you are redesigning your website, you might want to consider all these aspects and issues.)

I am the afraid 'Affiliate' page and all the other Affiliate links on the site make it clear that your site 'leans' on the commercial side. As such, your site is unsuitable for ZEAL since only non-commercial sites are listed in it.
Advice you to get a paid listing at Looksmart
For a free listing try in WOW Directory or in Netscape ODP

It's only one link so I'm not gonna fight for it. BUT, I have 33 reviews and in no way is this a commercial site. Everysite has links to external sites, why can't mine

As a web designer I always think on how to present information with a visual appeal while also considering the usability aspect.
Long texts should always be left aligned, as then the user does not have to work harder to search where the next line begins (as in the case of a center aligned text). Since this forum uses center alignment for its post, I feel that I increase the usability of my posts by putting the text in a smaller area (the quote box).
I also feel the quote box adds visual appeal ... though the bright background does dampen the usability aspect a bit (dark blue text colour does help, but I am lazy to add the codes ...)

I find it confuding sometimes in long posts. You quote other people, then quote yourself, and it can be annoying trying to find your post. Quoting is meant to be for other people, and so your reply then stands out as being non quoted.
Also in the post above, it looks like you are quoting from another website, as if you have all these replies saved or copied from online
And this forum is left aligned. The text lines with the left margin, By quoting, you are just doing the same but putting it in a little box in the middle of the page.

Here is a quote from the Zeal Guidelines:
Quote:
|
Sites that do not offer goods or services but whose main purpose is to direct users to such goods or services may also be considered commercial.
|
That is far from the main purpose of his website. The word "may" is in that quote, as even in those circumstances, it can be argued if a site is commercial or not. Zeal says that a site with more content than commercial content or links is not commercial. I would disagree that his site should be refused.

I think you told me that you became a contributor. Why don't you try submitting his site and see what the editor says?
