SiteMap

I'm not anywhere near SEO Savvy, but I've always heard that Sitemaps help alot with SEO. Can someone check out my sitemap and tell if it's good enough? http://www.uniqueemployment.com/beta/sitemap.php

part of the reasons for sitemaps is to get your keywords in the links to all of the pages.

your site map uses full sentences as the links. most site maps use a word or two for the link and then an explaination after it.

Sitemap is one of those web pages which is most liked by bots or crawlers.
If you study your log files, you will find crawlers spend a lot of time on your site maps, links page etc... Places which generally have more links than normal pages of your website..

A beautiful crafted sitemap must include what awall19 says, links with full sentences full of your juicy keywords. (Awall19 always writes short replies, but they are worth reading again ..)

And I think youhave done a good job with your sitemap..Now you have to get a good PR...

Bytheway PR update is just around the work last week of this month or first week of next month..

So get set to work..

Also, your sitemap should be linked from your homepage. That puts every page on the site within two clicks of the homepage. Googlebot seems to really like this.

yes, a few suggestions:

1) link to the sitemap from EVERY page on your site

2) use appropriate anchor text in the links

A while back I wrote a brief article on designing site maps. Perhaps it will help give you a few ideas for yours.

Is there a limit for a sitemap ? I have a portal with more than 3000 articles and if I put their titles on one single page ( that would be the sitemap ) will the page be crawled ?

Have you considered breaking the articles up into categories? You could consider placing just the the categories on a main site map and then create several smaller individual site maps for the actual articles within each category.

I'll be happy to show you some examples using this technique, but on a much smaller scale.

Good idea. Thanks, I see what you mean. But the problem is that I only have 8 categories for the 3000 articles ...

375 links per page is a whole lot less than 3,000

Some categories have got more articles than other . So it can be 800 for some and 200 for others.
But anyone can a bot crawl more than 500 links of one single and only page ?

I don't know if the number of links on a page makes a difference, but Google doesn't seem to like to index pages larger than 101K.

it depends on how much inbound link popularity the give page has. i have seen pages with thousands of links with them all showing as backlinks.
