Ok, I've installed Notepad++.
Now, tell me how this is such a great HTML editor, because honestly, it just looks like Windows Notepad on steroids.
And that's fine. Strictly as a text editor, I'm sure it's great.
But what I'm interested in is an HTML Editor. I tried a couple of the plug-ins like HTML Tag, but I have no idea what to do with it.

Did you try searching Google for "portable wysiwyg html editor" (complete with quotes - add free inside the quote marks if you want free)

Yes I have, and about the only thing that comes up is NVU and Kompozer -- both of which I've tried and really don't care for.
And I'm not looking specifically for a WYSIWYG. A text editor made for HTML would be great, like HTML Kit.
I just thought with all the cool portable apps you can get that somewhere there would be a decent portable HTML editor.

For Mac, I recommend BBEdit. And, yes, it isn't free.

For Windows, there are lots of them over the web. But I consider Notepad++ as the most practical. I didn't try any other editor cause I think it will be a waste of time since Notepad++ works fine for me.

I finally downloaded and checked out CodeLobster and it's ............... decent.
Apparently it's designed for php coding but can be used for HTML as well. It's got a preview window, supports snippets, does FTP, kool.
It also has a bunch of plug-ins for working with CMS paltforms like Joomla and Wordpress, but these take the paid version.
There are other features, but those are the ones that stand out.
And I'm going to ask again:
What is so great about NotePad++?
As a text editor, it is nice. I do use it as a text editor, but really, what makes it so great as an HTML editor? Everyone keeps going on how great it is and how they love to use it, but tell me why, specifically. What features does it have that make you keep using it.
Until then I'll be checking out CodeLobster.

It doesn't get in the way of my coding style, it's lightning fast (even with crap-tons of extensions), easily extendable (autocomplete, syntax highlighting, ftp, compare etc.), it's free and it just works.

I have so many editors and IDEs on my machine, but I mostly use Notepad++ (and Netbeans).
