Content curation.

Hi,

Does anyone use content curation for their blog material?

"Content curation usually involves the collection of content relevant to a topic and then sharing short portions of them
(on a blog or website or other platform), while linking to and giving credit to the original source."

If the blog you are linking to accepts pingbacks, then you will receive a link from that blog. No more begging for back links.

But don't just populate your blog with 100% curated content. You must include your own original articles.

Matt Cutts addressed this concept in the video below.

He says everyone else has the same access to news content etc. That's true, but not everyone will search for it. Then he mentions a blog that links to other sites, but decides what to link to. Well, duh, that's my idea of content curation and the way I'd use it. Matt needs fifty cuts, or lashes, lol.

You may have the wrong end of the stick here. The software doesn't create articles, it grabs articles on a certain topic that you can use and include a link back to the author or wherever the article was published.

Curation software has been on my list for a while now. I've bookmarked a few sites and started evaluating them.

MR: Are you using Curationsoft personally? It looks affordable. What would you say are its strengths and weaknesses? Are there other/better tools out there?

Thanks in advance.

I bought Curation Soft a while back because it sounded good, but haven't used it yet. I plan to use it though, because I want to curate stuff for my blog articles. There are other tools that also do the job.

Honestly, this is a new concept for me all together. Thanks for sharing this.
Is there a guide somewhere that can be followed to have a step by step way to do it.

I have seen on many sites. Content powered by Outbrain etc. is this the same concept?

I would be very weary with curation sites, especially if you're using snippets. Matt Cutts (head of Google Web Spam) is after you it seems: https://twitter.com/mattcutts/status/439122708157435904

Here's a reply from CurationSoft:

Quote:
Actually we don't use common google search api, but we use different search APIs for each google product.
There is not much information in results list - just url, short description and date.
It doesn't contain any JS inclusions, or some specific keywords to help somebody to scrape your site in automatic mode.
Also if you add some additional information to your post - it will be also HTML code only.

If you're worrying about not relevant or wrong results coming from google searches - we have many another search sources you can check your search with ( to prevent working with invalid site/results ).

I think you shouldn't worry about it.

That reads like a "sales pitch"....

Of course they are going to claim nothing but good...

I have seen many "magic" systems in the past 15+ years.....still waiting for one that actually survives.

When someone develops a technique that provides a shortcut, it seems to work well in the early stages....
but as more and more people try to game the system, the engine people come up with a stop that defeats the finished work.

In many cases the site owner is faced with month of repairs to return the site to a good ranking....

IMO....I would wait for some solid long term results before risking my site...
