I may not have much experience of actually driving, but I'm a good driver. I don't care what you say, but all those videogames you play help you learn a lot of things with driving.

I just drove from central Ohio to Toronto and just came back. 8 hours there, 8 back. And I only have my temps...

I so hope you are kidding, the aim of most of those videogames are to kill other drivers and speed, how is that 'helping' your driving

No they do help. Not all videogames are about killing people. Take Gran Turismo for example, all that is, is a racing game. Sure you speed, but I'm not someone to go out and start speeding just because I saw it in a game. I hate the people that believe videogames is what causes kids to kill people. Those kids are just messed up in their heads.

actually there was a study a long time ago that proved video games helped drivers with seing things before they happen or something similar to that matter, i would post the article if i can find it. i think it was about having a faster response or something to that matter.

yea it sounds crazy but that article proved it to me, someone try to google it and see if they can find it.

I never played video games in a long time but i can tell you Gran Turismo is one very realistic game.

Videogames helped me most with backing up. It's so easy for me to manuver (sp?) when backing up and stuff.

Of course video games can help w/ driving.

Don't they make you do "simulators" in driver's classes?

Also, I know after playing GT for a week I would get into my car and race around like I was still playing the game.

Ah "video games".
I hold a privates pilots license.
I took one lesson and my test flight.
How did I do it? I used to play MS Flight Simulator ALL the time.
Just proves these things are very very helpful. My flight instructor was amazed that I was already fully capable of flying a single engined plane, never having flown before in my life. All down to the guys at Microsoft.

I saw a special on TV a while back where they said that playing some vid games was quite similar to actual piloting of a fighter jet and a few other things, if I remember correctly.

It's because they're designed to simulate real life.

They give you a dip into what it's like, the actual feel is different (car vibration, wheel differences, etc.) but the fundamentals stay the same. If you take a sharp turn from the inside, of course you're going to crash, real life or not.

everything has pros and cons. if those vid games have negative effects on kids, probably parents weren't aware of that and they should keep an eye on their kids.
