How Voice Search Affects SEO

Quote:
Google and Siri may have started voice search, but Amazon Echo really got the ball rolling. When it was launched in 2015, it was seen as a fun voice recognition gimmick that everyone would want for a few months before forgetting all about it.

Yet this turned out to be no Furby. In December 2016, Echo was Amazon's most popular product over the holiday period, and it seems that Alexa and her friends are here to stay.

No surprise, then that Google has been quick to join the fray, with the launch of Google Home, to build on Google Voice already on Android. And of course, there is the iPhone's Siri and Microsoft Cortana.

Considering how searches are constructed in voice search, this would really boost traffic in long tail keywords especially to keywords that try to answer questions starting in What, Where, When, Why and How.

Writing the way your target audience "talks" is not new. Before voice search you should have been doing this anyways.

However, voice search might be a bit further in the future IMHO because there are a number of obstacles the software will need to get past to work successfully. e.g. accents, level of speech, terrible grammar on the part of the user, speech impediments, etc.

This episode of Big Bang Theory was on recently:

True. The great difference between actual people searching and AI assisted searches is the syntax and semantics of their keywords. Oftentimes, people have different styles of search as to compared to AI which tries to adapt a conventional or general approach. This is why I believe, long tail keywords would benefit a lot. However, how software tries to translate what people say and what the AI thinks what they say is the gap that must be significantly considered. For now, the use of voice search is growing but I don't think we will be expecting an exponential growth in the coming months. Most probably, it will happen later in years.

Voice Search

The future is here with voice search. However, it does not make SEO less useful but it affects semantic search in two ways:
1. They are more specific search terms as nobody will say "Indian Restaurant in New York" but "Where is the Best Indian Restaurant in New York?"
2. There is no list. The answers are straight and pinpoint. Exact answers to exact question.
