Blog Commenting - Complete Waste Of Time

Now before you go jump on me, you need to know that i did not write this blog post that i am about to share with you. First thing is to read the whole blog post before you post your in this thread. It's a interesting read.

Quote:
Let me just be clear here so thereís no confusion. Commenting on blogs as a means of joining a conversation, or being part of a topic or community, is great. Itís what makes blogs (and blogging!) fun.

But a blog commenting marketing strategy is just plain stupid, in my opinion. And a complete waste of time.

Donít worry Ė Iím going to back that statement up and tell you why.

Given the rash of new blog comment spam that many bloggers are experiencing this week, including myself (grr!), I thought this would be a good time to talk about blog commenting as a marketing strategy Ė and why you should ditch it.

I don't think the author has much in the way of logic. They say people outsource this stuff or use a bot and then they say it's a waste of your time. If I use a bot, am I really wasting my time? Obviously not.

The other thing that bugs me is the offline bakery example. How is running a spammy website about casinos similar to running a bakery? They say in the article to concentrate on the product - how many webmasters sell a product that they make themselves? Maybe .00001% or so? As opposed to most bakers. Obviously two very different business get two very different marketing strategies.

Having said that, there is only one blog I have commented on in the past few years. I do it because I like reading the blog anyway but I make sure to fill in my URL - a free link is a free link, right?

Not a waste IMO, it's a good way to get indexed quickly.

I have seen my rankings shoot up from outsourced blog comments to high PR blogs

I really don’t think that blog commenting is waste of time, before sometime I use to comment on high traffic blogs and I use to get 25-30 hits on the same day.

I have done blog commenting and I can say that I haven't gotten hardly any results. Only a couple of people even took the time to visit my blog afterwards. So, much so I wrote a blog post about sharing blog love.

blog commenting should be a traffic tactic that's outsourced.
you can do other traffic methods that would be more effective
and will send you traffic alot faster.

non relevant blog commenting which only targets back linking is really a mess. For my blogs each time i log in to account,i have to spend more time to remove spams with non relevant content. Therefore as a blog owner i dont really like this.

But If you add something valuable to that blog's content, i really appreciate it. no matter you post the links. but do something valuable to that blog and it's readers.that's very much fair.

Agreed with you. its kind a spamming but you should remember that all the webmasters use this process. why? are they fool? NO! Blog commenting is one of the vital way to attract people to your site. if your comments can attract other people then they will definitely click on your anchor text. which is your main goal right?

I agree and disagree. This no-follow and do-follow stuff annoys me, and I think a link is a link at the end of the day. They just have a different effect on SERPs and all that.

Thing is, my comments on blogs are being registered, and I do get a fair few hits on my tech posts if I comment on engadget.com for example.

Also, its helping in blog search:

However I do notice this number fluctuates.

If you have a wordpress blog Askmit stops most spam comments, you don't even see them, it is true there are now many automated forms of blog spamming, but this can be cut back in the same way with auto spam detection.
