So all these legal troubles Google has doesn't make them evil even though they in the wrong?

Huh? Why would Google give a damn about competition between those providing SEO services?

And, what has that to do with Google's unholy desire to monopolize as much as it can?

So, is Google evil? I spent a portion of my free time this week-end reading Google's 2009 10-K and was not a bit surprised at their ambitious goals and who they view as their competitors:

The way I see it, Google views everyone as their competition. Google wants to control everything, from your OS, your browser, your email and chat clients, your online entertainment, news, online shopping, mobile apps, to your online medical records and social networking.

We face intense competition.

In short, Google wants to control the Internet.

And I find that to be very evil.
I do not think Google is evil. It is natural every company wants to the leader in their domain. Most of the Google products are popular and useful. They introduced the scheme Adsense which gives bread and butter for many web publishers.

Did you read the last few pages of these thread? There was some links to stories about what's going on lately in the Google world and it's not good news.

Don't really think Google is evil, but lately I have been experimenting with their ad network and must say they have one wicked moneymaking scheme going on there.

You referring to Adwords right? The Google affiliate network is going bye bye.

I agree that Adwords is a money pit. Google sure takes my money and not always making me happy with converts. lol

Think over the years Google might of bought a few laptops with my money.

Yup, can't believe how the system works. It makes only sense to participate if you work for google or have a large budget and general marketing objectives. For small publishers, term unfriendly came to mind. We'll see how will my campaign pass, but the feeling of money throwing is already here.

Somehow I doubt the network will fall anytime soon, they are localising it and offering to classical companies. And there is some interest here from what I can see...

One can be a leader without engaging in the nefarious behavior that Google has become accustomed to.

Setting aside the fact that the majority of Google grown services have failed, and that the few of its offerings that survive and are popular have either been bought or copied from others, such is irrelevant to the issue of Google's behavior.

Not so. Google copied its AdWords and AdSense platforms from earlier innovators.

Evil is copying the Overture PPC platform, but changing it from an transparent auction to an opaque one, and calling the result AdWords.

Evil is copying the Overture keyword research tool, but omitting the all important high five current bids data, and calling it the AdWords keywords tool.

Evil is then telling advertisers that their bids are below some arbitrary and highly volatile minimum bid, or that their bids are below that needed to appear on the first page of SERPs. (This is particularly amusing when the first page does not even show the maximum number of PPC listings and/or ones listing actually appears there.)

Evil is then creating a Quality Score that is, for the most part, based on how profitable a listing is to Google, and using that to determine ones Ad Rank and actual Cost-per-Click.

Evil is creating an advertising platform that, by design, makes it impossible for an advertiser to reasonable determine what either his Ad Rank or CPC will be, thus inducing him to overbid.
