css with html5 q's

I cant figure out why my css isn't affecting my page. im using only html5 with a separate folder and stripped everything out to see where I went wrong.

HTML Code:
<!doctype html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> <title>Bucky's Website</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="main.css"/> </head> <body> <p id="tuna">hello</p> </body> </html>

AND CSS

#tuna{color:green;}

ok I got it working. 2 problems both solved. 1. had to create a new file a put css and html into them both. bit of a hassel. 2. I named the css reference on the html page as "main.css instead of the actual name of the html file. hope this helps someone else
