It really depends on the relationship of the two.

If you have a dog related domain and you want to start a bike related site then no point creating a sub domain or directory in that.

I suggest go for a new domain name.

That is really a very vague question. How are people able to give valuable and useful answers when you haven't explained what the theme of the site will be and what the theme of the existing site is?

I don't use sub-domains but dug up a blog post on this topic. Not sure if it's what you wanted to hear.

It is more expensive to buy a new domain name than using a subdomain but you will surely get a better rank in search engine with a new domain name.

It's also more expensive to buy a package of gum, rather than not buying it.

Most SEO's are of the camp that subdomains are treated the same as a completely separate domain. So, I'll assume you are just guessing.

If your both topic are not same how can you use sub-domain for other topics? First, clear your question.

If you have a domain that fit every topic then you can use sub-domain for other topics. but I suggest you, if you have same domain related topics then you can create categories for every topic. Simple!

First of all your question is not explanatory enough. If you have a website which is about Web site designing and you want to make another website which is into home loans. Then I would recommend you to go for a new domain name. Hope this will help.
