Do you think videos slow down the site loading?

Hi,

If I'm gonna upload more and more videos, what will happen to my site?
For instance, if I upload 1000 videos to my website, will it affect the site loading?

Or do we have to use some techniques when uploading the videos in order to reduce any kind of risks?

Don't host them on your site. Embed them.

Consider getting a quote from a video hosting site like Vimeo. You pay for the service, but the playback options for use with your videos, the fact you can control the start and end of the video, and the fact you use their bandwidth makes it worth while.

You are hosting that on your own site so definitely it will impact on your website loading time but if embed it so never get any problem.

For hosting your video you can use youtube and Vimeo both are best option for you. choose one and you can enjoy.

Ok all you guys saying host elsewhere,

Your site will load slowly if the remote server crashes as the browser waits for the information to be received so how is relying on someone else's server any better than

a) hosting the videos yourself
b) parking the videos on your own sub domain just for storage and fetching them from there?

If performance happens to be an issue playing videos on my hosted site, I would defer to a service that is designed to deliver optimum video performance, if video is really important to my business.

If I want more control over the video, I'd just simplify things and defer to a remote hosted service as they usually have some pretty good controls and features.

If I have lots of traffic, I may trigger some bandwidth issues on my site host depending on the number of videos in play, and how often they are requested.

I'd only go with a reputable remote service, but that said, there is the possibility I could develop some bandwidth issues from either source. However, in terms of performance - its' fairly easy to test - just trying it out at first on the site host plan. If there's not an issue, then there's no need to go elsewhere to host the videos.

And yes, like a site hosted plan, a remote video hosted server could develop "delivery" issues, but again, I've not had any complaints about the remote server.

There's that, and I'm not managing 1000 videos with tons of traffic either.

Why make Google any richer by driving traffic to their site?

What are you going to do if Youtube or any other video hosting site goes out of business? Have you got a backup plan? i.e. have total control of your destiny should your supplemental avenues of marketing disappear.

The biggest mistake you said it, using a cheap web host. You get what you pay for and not investing in a good web host can mean the blog is destined to fail someday.

Using video's to get traffic to your main site is a good thing and even use the adsense ads on the youtube video's could bring in revenue if you have a lot of people viewing the video's in your channel.

My suggestion is don't count on money earned with video's as your soul revenue source. If your video idea just doesn't get going and not many people interested in the video's you make, you need another revenue source that actually makes you money.

Again, poor web host can hurt a blog big time one day. What if a person with 10,000 twitter followers shares a link of yours on there feeder and you get 10,000 views in a matter of minutes. That cheap web host will get over-loaded and your blog might go offline or you just wasted all your bandwidth.

Site loading belongs to your host package. If you have to upload 1000 videos, you can find some video sharing sites ( such as youtube, vimeo, dailymotion)and upload them on these sites, then get embed code and insert the code in your site.
If you want to save your data, you can hire a better host

It depends on the size of the video actually. If the video file is big, then it will definitely have an effect on the site's loading time. And if you're really looking at uploading 1000 videos, then you might have to consider upgrading your web server in order to prevent slow loading time...
