Simple, easy to use CMS?

Can anyone recommend me a good CMS? I've never used one before so I could use some advice.

A client I am building a site for would like to be able to update a calendar/schedule portion of her site, just text based. If anyone knows of a good cms system for this I would appreciate it. She is not tech savy so it needs to be as simple as possible, very easy to use.

The stuff she would be editing would be simple, like this, just adding and removing events from a list.

October
-do stuff on oct 3
-more stuff on oct 15

November
-more stuff on nov 12
-stuff on nov 20

Is this on one page? Does it involve tabs for the months?

Just one page, not tabs for months or anything like that, just a list of months, like the example I showed.

Then how about using an include? You could setup an example that she can follow/copy.

What exactly is an include? I am a bit of an amateur at this stuff.

An include is a separate file which is "included" into the page via the server.

PHP includes: If you are using static HTML pages you have to put an instruction in the .htaccess file to tell the server to render the PHP. You won't be able to see the inserted file offline, it only works when uploaded to a server. No change required to the existing file extension.

If it was a brand new site you could look at doing server side includes.

With the two methods above you would have to teach her how to upload just the include file.

MS FrontPage and Expression Web have design time includes you can use. This way, when you update the include and the set of files for the project the customer would be able to see the included material on their own computer before uploading to the web server.

You can cakephp based framework since it gives very much flexibility to do further up-gradation of the site

The way I'd tackle this problem is to give her a form page in which to enter the data for a calendar event. (Password-protected, of course - using salted SHA1 for the password, among other security measures.) Then enter the event in a database. Also allow her to search for events and delete old ones.

Build that page in PHP, getting the event data from the database. If she prefers, only display events that aren't in the past. (Select where the date of the event is greater than yesterday.)

Much less code, easier for you to maintain if you ever have to, easier for her to use.
