Are these specs overkill for me?

I have a news website that averages around 50,000 page views a day. 2 days throughout the month we have between 600-1200 users live on the website at once for about 4-5 hours for both days. We use wordpress and vbulletin. I intend on our pv's to increase to around 70,000 a day in the next few months.

I am paying $525 a month for this:

Server Hardware: Dell R620
Processor: 2 x Intel E5-2620v2 2.1GHz 6 Core
Memory: 32GB ECC DDR3 Performance
Disk: 240GB usable, consisting of 2 x 240GB Enterprise SSD
Drive Controller: Dell H710, RAID-1
Power: Single PSU
Bandwidth: 5TB Transfer / 1GB Port
IP Addresses: 1
Backup: 2x Daily, Off-site

Site crashes when we have heavy traffic, both the main site and vbulletin forums. I am attributing the main site to our wordpress theme, as it was poorly optimized. I am looking to change servers as I feel $525 is ridiculous for a news website that only gets 50,000 page views a day.

Can someone please share their thoughts if those specs are overkill for my needs? I don't know a lot about server specs. I have taken a look at some other companies such as Hivelocity which is under $300 store.hivelocity.net/product/245/customize

Then there's Inmotion at $229 for:

Intel® Xeon® E3-1246 v3
3.9GHz Turbo 4C/8T
16GB 32GB Double RAM Promo
Hardware RAID:
2x250GB SSD or 2x2TB 7.2K SATA
10TB Data Transfer
15 IP's Included

Last one is siteground at $329:

Intel Xeon E3-1270 CPU
3.50Ghz CPU Clock Speed
4 CPU Cores
8 CPU Threads
8MB CPU Cache
5TB Bandwidth

With siteground perhaps I only need their entry server at 225:

Intel Xeon E3-1230 CPU
3.20Ghz CPU Clock Speed
4 CPU Cores
8 CPU Threads
8MB CPU Cache
5TB Bandwidth

Check attachment for my current server usage if it helps at all.

Try Contabo.com It's a German hosting company. I've been around looking for Hosting company. The good side is I think they have the cheapest price. The bad side, you must maintain your server by yourself.
PS: I'm not from Contabo nor any affiliate from Contabo pure 100% user

Based on your stats, you definitely don't need that much CPU power.

BUT I wouldn't rely on that until you figure out why your site is crashing. When the server does crash, what kind of traffic are you seeing? What happens when it does crash? CPU maxed out? Out of memory? Swapping to disk?

I would get your crashing issue figured out before you cut back on resources.

The best think in this situation is looking at the problem together with your hosting provider. I believe in such situation you can hope for some valuable suggestions from their end as well.
