Tell me about it! I did the same to an Ecommerce site a few months back and I wish I never had now. Im only just back in control of things now.

I was back and forth with my web host in live chat. Boy did they want to end that chat with me.... was like an all day event. I thought I did things correctly but things got crazy with redirect and I had to get help. lol

The very long down time wasn't a good thing in Dec. when it's a good month to make money online. I will never set SSL up on anyone's website if they paid me a lot of money. Don't want to go through this again.

I was asked by a client, who actually does pay me a decent sized monthly fee, to do it. In future I will ask for a special one of payment for doing it, as I've spent too long trying to configure everything.

I wouldn't have minded but before the sites inception I stated that an SSL would be best added from the outset. They didn't want one, then they did...just after I'd started to get links coming in too.

Not a problem longest code is written correctly.
And yes... You will have to do it again, even learn it by rote, because of this:

Starting January 2017, Chrome 56 will label HTTP pages with password or credit card form fields as not secure given their particularly sensitive nature...
Eventually, we plan to label all HTTP pages as non-secure, and change the HTTP security indicator to the red triangle that we use for broken HTTPS.
