Talking Best Netbook?

I'm considering getting a Netbook, but I'm not sure which one is best. I was originally considering getting a decent laptop, but then I decided that it would be better to get a cheap Netbook for word processing and web browsing and keep my desktop for all the gaming and resource intensive stuff.

I'd be looking at getting a 10.1" screen, as that seems to be the standard size. Battery life is also very important and is one of the reasons why I'd get a small Netbook instead of a big laptop. The rest doesn't really matter as I'm only doing basic stuff with it.

Does anyone have good or bad experiences with Netbooks? Which company do you prefer? I've heard that the Asus EEE series is good.

Budget wise, I'd say I'm aiming to spend around US$300, however if it is worth it, I'd definitely go higher. Obviously if I could get a decent 12" screen while still having decent battery life, I'd be prepared to spend more.

I appreciate any input you might have. Ideally if you can recommend a laptop, explain why it is good and show me a place that sells it for a good price, that would be fantastic. I don't need it shipped to India, I can get someone to bring it over from America.

Thanks for your help

netbooks are only the mini laptops powered by an Intel Atom processor...Now a days its so popular bcoz of its new technologies. New platforms for netbooks will surely emerge in the future, like the fresh Nvidia Ion that offers better graphic performances . Especially since Intel prepares the Pine Trail line of processors to replace the Atoms from fall 2009. Besides that, most netbooks come with 1 GB of RAM and 160 GB hard-drives. But you can easily add an extra 1 GB of RAM or buy a bigger storage drive or even and SSD.

I don't need better graphics performance or anything. I think the base model Asus EEEpc comes with a 60GB SSD? That is all I need really.

Well, I guess there are a million opinions but I recently spent 2 months wandering in Europe and china, and on a cruise in Arctic waters and was fully happy with my HP.

Light, fair enough battery life, great keyboard (95% full size), wifi etc.

I suggest you go for a Dell Inspirion. Because in your estimated budget range you can easily purchase a core2due dell notebook. Visit dell online store and see what they are offering

You can get an HP from Verizon for $50... but with a contract for monthly data service, if it's what you are looking for.

I love my Asus EEEpc. I would recommend spending the extra $50 for the bigger battery.

I just purchased a Samsung N150 Netbook.

The configuration is as follows:
Atom N550 1.5Ghz, Dual Core.
1GB Ram
250GB Hard Drive
10.1" Screen
6 cell battery.

It is actually quite a nice little thing. The battery life is great and I am very happy with it.

Currently I am in the possession of a Dell Vostro netbook with the Ubuntu OS on it. Absolutely love it, works smooth, boots up quick and can use it for everyday computer stuff.

Even I do not recommend netbook to anyone but if you really wanted to go with it then netbook from Samsung may be the best value for the money.

You don't recommend a netbook to anyone? Why?

Perhaps you don't cruise and holiday all around the world as much as I do. Two months last time in 3 countries and an Arctic Cruise. A month travelling in Malaysai will be the next one very soon.

If you wander the world constantly having fun and games, as I do, and want to be in contact with and give great support to all my affiliates you will soon appreciate the lightness and portability of a netbook.

Wonderful things! Here's a short fun video showing me using mine in various places:

I loved your comment, I have read it three times (for real)

There is a little misunderstanding here, the guy is asking about the device called "netbook" or "mini laptop" in some countries.

It was sweet of you to stop and give your opinion though

Thank you for the smile you put on my face this afternoon

Back to the main question, I love my netbook it is Asus too, but made in China. Have it for like two years now, and never complained!

Last month only, I bought Acer Aspire One, and honestly speaking its good beyond my imagination.

Battery is great - more than 6 hours of working after charging it full and keyword is also very comfortable.

I have an Asus EEEPC 1001PX and I've tried a lot of netbooks, though I wouldn't recommend one. Either get a tablet or a notebook, because netbooks have really slow CPUs, a low amount of ram and very small low quality displays.
