Has anyone served time for breaking copywright, or other plagiarism laws?

Or are the problems usually resolved by fines?

I haven't. It's better to save yourself the trouble and just follow the law.

There's always a price when cut in an act. If there is a prove of plagiarism. Plagiarism is not defined or punished by law, it is dependent on the publisher.

Plagiarism is not in itself a*crime, but can constitute*copyright infringement. If the site has copyright rule.

Sometimes your site will be brought down depending on the extent in which the copies were made.

I'm sure some have served time in prison over it. Personally me I wouldn't want someone to serve a prison sentence over some plagiarism they did to me.

I don't advocate plagiarism and I really recommend you don't do any of it.

Not worth the risk.

You wouldn't usually serve time if the infringement isn't severe.

I've been called up on a trademark infringement which i didn't know was in place - i made my case and withdrew the offending content, no fine nor jail time. I hadn't profited from the use of that trademark which may have been my redeeming factor.
