You very well could be bound by an intellectual property clause since I'll assume maybe some or all of the project may have been conceived or developed at the learning institutions property, in whole or in part.
If your project has a good potential to make some significant money, and if you have a few bucks in your pocket, you might want to consult with a lawyer first, so as to not make your intentions known to the college. You actually may find a lawyer that might give you a free initial consult, and they just may say approach the "dean" with your thoughts/ideas. Or not.
