If a forum does not generate revenue how will the admin be able to afford it's high costs?

long term SEO is a good place to start...

you have to post a lot of relevant things to get members to use the forum.

you could also try buying up some other forums, and merging them all into one forum perhaps? just an idea....

I would recommend you to keep paid membership for forums. This helps to control spammers and make them stay away. Paid advertisement also helps to increase website traffic. Content needs to be reviewed by forum admins and make sure that spams or unnecessary content must be removed.

I agree with this idea, but we need more efforts, time and money to do this.

It's really challenging to generate revenues through forums, first you need to create a lots of posts to show that this forum is active and other user can get attracted to discuss the topic. Then you'll need to promote it in different social networking websites to get direct traffic.

Forums need quality AND quantity in my opinion.. I have a forum of my own but I lack quantity and so far its not successful.

Post a lot of quality info a few times a day, get new people to register, offer forum gifts if they refer a certain amount of people. small things like this help a lot i think.

On the spam. Sometimes you DO need to ban the user immediately as sometimes they're clearly identifiable as spammers that aren't actually a person. But instead they're a bot signing up for forums just to spam.

You should also moderate the users first post before it going live. This way there is less spam on your forum.

You can delete the spam and ban the user before your forum is flooded with spam.

Trust me. It's much easier to moderate the first post and ban the spammer and remove their spam posts on the admin side than it is to clear up the spam from the forum if I hadn't moderated it.

I get bots who sign up and spam the forum with 100 posts. But because I moderate that users first posts none of their spam shows up on the forum.

Only the admin sees the spam. It makes for a much cleaner forum.
