Do people put the .co .com or whatever in the search term? i only pump in the two or three keywords of what i'm looking for. Surely if you have your content reflecting what you do and you can get your keyword and url disseminated you will be found.

I also prefer .com domain instead of .co domain because generally everyone use .com , it means most of the people feels much comfort with this , hence traffic will be more availaible to .com domains .

People seem to go with .co only when .com is unavailable.

To be sincere, the type of extension used doesn’t have any effect when it comes to SEO. But when it comes to popularity among people, then the type of extension selected matters a lot.

A dot com extension is more popular. If yours is a company then a dot co extension works better. The two types of extensions are good; why not register that name using both of them since a name can have more than one type of domain name extension.

Can you back your recommendation up? I'd like to know why you recommend .com over .co. Please explain.

Kind Regards

Hi Neal

I've actually tested this and found .com ranks better then .co. I also notice that the top pages in Google search results are rarely other extensions apart from .com based sites. Of course, the .com is the extension most in use as proper websites. But still, it’s hard not to notice that other extensions get less “airtime”, unless they are heavily worked on by their owners.

I hope that you understand about my .com recommendation.

Regards
Xpertsalman

Hi Xpertsalman,
Thank you for a proper response. Your research is of course flawed, as you stated .com has more history than any .co. So we all know that .com will more likely be higher on the search engines ranking.

The only way to test correctly would be to register two domains, one .com and one .co. and threat them to the same content and seo and launch them at the same time.

Thanks for your time

Neal

Perhaps you are seeing .com results more because you are using google.com opposed to another country version of the Google?

How can your method to testing prove anything? If you have the exact same site on .com and .co one of them isn't going to do very well due to duplicate content. And as noted above, it would also depend on what version of google results the user is using.

Duplicate content is only duplicate if it's on the same domain. Having the same content on two sites seems not to do either any harm. I have tested this for many months with two .co.uk websites, both rank equally (as in one often under the other) and both move up and down the ranking periodically and swap position. I removed one and 303'd it's url's to the other with no significant change of position. I also have carried out tweet experiments where I tweet the same content for multiple accounts and they seem to index equally.

I can only conclude that a .com or a .co have equal weight.

on another point.
.co was for Columbia, why the change? .co.uk is for us English *stands people. What is the official suffix for usa?

For word to mouth purpose .com is best, because people has .com in the mind. for seo point of view it does not effects, but domain name should contain keyword for easy seo.

Are you from Columbia ? Is your targeted market is from Columbia. If yes then choose .co
if no then just forget about .co and target for .com.

.com domain always the most friendly with search engine in SEO.
