SSL is a costly thing which a small business owner can't afford and as Google promoting the website security is essential they should come up with more guidelines as a social responsibility or as a part of their vision. But I don't see major difference in this issue for some sectors of business where there is less interference of big Giants and commercial entities.

obviously, https has more preference compare then HTTP because https is a secure website so Google announced https also one of ranking factor to rank the keyword.

Is HTTPS helping website to get ranked?

Yes,
The day is fast coming when Google HTTPS Ranking can no longer be ignored. Very soon, Non-HTTPS sites will be labeled as “Not Secure” by Chrome.

Bullchit!!! And who the F^ck uses chrome? Besides IE worst browser ever created.

Google will NEVER require any website to use SSL.. The https is for any site that collects personal data and stores it in a database and/or handles it's own payment processing. Millions upon millions of sites will never require SSL. The expense, additional coding, and etc is not worth it.

HTTPS protects webmaster data, but it also ensures that the user is connecting to an real site and not a fake one. So maybe in the near future paying attention to this SSL detail could allow your site to rank higher than a competitor beyond on-page SEO

Are you inferring that a site without SSL is a fake site??

I had been aware of the http/https debate in recent times. And indeed I had considered maybe switching over to https this new year.

But to be honest - I am on an http site - and I rank highly for keywords and local photos.

And why would a small site that does not collect personal data, nor take credit cards/money, need to be as secure as say, for example, a banking site.

I can't see how it would make any sense to penalise small sites that have no great need for such security measures.

HTTPS

I would never advise anyone starting a new blog to do it in non https. Period.

From googles standpoint it is one small thing that may show them that a certain site is more professional. That is all.

For those of you not taking secure information, I think its a tricky question.

No from Google's standpoint it's still all about the users... Google wants ecom sites (or other sites that collect/store personal data) to be secured on all database queries and storing - Period!

No trick about it... This has been the case for over 10 years and it's certainly nothing new.

Google promotes HTTPS. It is a secured connection and nowadays every user who knows about the secured connection goes towards it.

Really? Can you please link me to the page on Google's own webmaster blog where they promote https as a ranking factor....

Funny thing about "What Google Says"

They say one thing and before it gets to the 50th person it's totally another thing and it's all of a sudden a ranking factor for all sites
