Quote of the thread in my opinion, one that I use a fair bit myself.

Probably the number 1 thing holding people back, they think because they exercise for a few hours per week that they can get away with eating whatever they want.

When I was younger I could get away with it as I had a metabolic furnace that incinerated anything and everything I could throw at it. But many people find as they age that the furnace dies down to a flicker and they need to start paying more attention to how they eat.

No sense repeating what has already been said ... there are a number of things you can and should do, and most of them are mentioned here.

As far as the quality of the diet, one thing I have found is that you tend to like/eat/crave what you are used to. If you eat a lot of fast food, it's going to taste good to you and that's what you are going to want. If you change and begin eating more wholesome food, you may not like it at first, but before long it begins to taste good to you and fast food becomes disgusting. At least that was my experience.

And if it's about weight loss, then you shouldn't try to starve yourself. It may sound strange to some people, but you have to eat to lose weight. The best way I have found is actually to eat often, but never overdo it. Meals should be small and nutritious.

Other than that, there is already a lot of good advice here.

While it's important to 'keep in shape', materially speaking there's no avoiding decay and death. Keeping spiritually fit is far more important. imo

I like working out and think it's a good thing. The only detail I don't understand is why some women want to have big abs like Britney Spears now. That's not very nice!

I ride a bicycle at least 10km per day and this helped a lot with losing some weight. Also this destracts me from IM, I need to totaly forget about it from time to time... I eat whatever I want, whereever I would like... I don't put limits on this. This is just my way...

The two most important times to eat are when you wake up and after you train. You need fuel in your tank to train hard, and if you don't fill 'er up at breakfast, you'll be running on fumes later.

Pffft...

You don't need to work out. You don't really need to do anything. Let me tell you the secret right here, you just need to buy the latest health fad and the fat will melt right off your body. By simply taking money out of your pocket and giving it the author of the latest diet craze you will have a piece of mind. Now that you are the proud owner of one of these info-products the road to success is paved before you!

You see, the advice given here is absolutely free. Therefore if it is free, it has no value. They say do this, do that, yet never consider that you are working two jobs and can't keep in shape. They give the answers you do not want to hear. Yet the guy in the infomercial is telling you all you need to know. He compels you to pull out your wallet and subtract money from it.

But wait! If you add up all the money you spend on info-products you could have just bought new slap on abs! Or an artificial heart! Or paid for liposuction!

I agree to this, though if one is exercising to lose fat, then eat about half an hour or so after your early morning workout.

Oh yes, the best time to train is before breakfast due to carb/fat metabolisation.

Bottom line: EAT BIG, SLEEP BIG, LIFT BIG, GET BIG.

If your trying to gain or lose weight it all comes down to your diet. If you lift but don't eat you won't get fit. If you eat but don't lift.. well we all know the answer to that one... if your trying to lose weight, you can only do so with a good diet.

diet diet diet.
This is the point that most people struggle on yet fail to realize it and results in their failure.

But don't forget to challenge yourself and push your limits.
