How do you keep your forums safe

How do you keep your forums safe?

How often do you update forums? It seems there are tons of forums running out of date versions of phpbb or vBulletin.

What about a WAF? Do you see a benefit?

I update every few years or so, but my forum software (IPS) has a pretty good track record, and keep us informed on discovered threats, offering quick patches for the older software. It makes updating the software for security reasons much less necessary.

It is okay if you do not do frequent updates to your forum

What - and leave the site vulnerable to spammers and "take-down" attack specialists??

The real danger to a forum isn't an outdated interface, rather it's spammy content. I've seen forums which were good just 6 months ago, now have nothing but spammy posts. All because nobody was paying attention to what was being posted. Good manual intervention in the form of moderation is the key. Without it, things can quickly get spammy.

For the forum to be safe, the admin team must be professional and work diligently. I respect that.
It looks like you used the word "my" instead of "your"
