What kind of search engine are you talking about? Is the script that you are using have any options available to stick up some ads?

If you not getting any traffic then putting up any type of revenue source would not do you any good.

Why don't you do what Google did, they created a PPC system well Adwords is what is was called and then adsense. Heck the Google search engine would not survive without adwords.

Anyway's, if you are getting some good traffic, why not create an advertise option for people to purchase text links or banner links. You know like buysellads.com but you could either have 1 time payment of cost per click or something. Basically if people want there ad higher on page 1 they pay more money.

I need to get my thinking cap on right now, not liking my suggestions so far. lol

You can consider PPC, sell ads or banners or pay for position in the rankings. Nothing wrong with any of them as long as you are up front about it. When you do either your chances of being well indexed in any of the big boys goes way down

I think if you are getting a lot visitors go for a high paying cpm network as clicks are really hard to get.

what is your website URL. if you wanna beat another search engines then you should first create all facilities on it like adwords and adsense and after that create a website or blog about your search engine so people will come to it and check if it is giving very relevant results. they also prefer it first then others.

and also you can launch first free services or trail for ads. so people get clicks and after that if they like it they continue it.

be sure to you have dedicated servers and programming language you are using in OOP.
your search must be very fast. if it is slow, people hate it.

launch new features that never made anyone yet and is very unique and interesting.
and please post your search engine URL here so we can give you more suggestions.
good luck...

I'm about to upset allot of people... getting paid for each visit to your site isn't going to happen. That's the holy grail of advertising and very unrealistic for a search engine.

That being said, I personally believe something like Clicksor's XML feed integration or XMLserving are better and more realistic for the type of site you are trying to monetize. Both services are CPC.

Your own manual search engine? I believe more like a directory search.

From my experience, anything that pays per view / visit / popup etc pays a lot less than pay per click. Those popup/include kind of ads pay peanuts, something like less than 10 cents per 1000 view or so. Now you know why people love adsense.

If you are expecting traffic from any particular niche, you can try some affiliate program. They don't pay even for clicks, still they pay well enough per sale - overall much better than anything else. Obviously it doesn't work for all traffic and without seeing your site, I can't be of much help.

Or other way is to go with a niche, build search engine for that niche, it should help..today you would get success if you provide classification, specialization as well.
