I know i HAVE an html file but i cant seem to put css into it. I do put the css link in my html so i should be able to access it and i have it written correctly for sure. i know its something stupid but im not sure.

Thumbs up

please post your code so we can assist you.

There are several ways to implement styles.
1) Inline Styling (style attribute inserted directly into html tags)
2) Internal Cascaded Style Sheet (CSS placed in the head of your html documents)
3) External Cascaded Style Sheet (CSS within an external file linked to within the head of your html document)

Examples:

Inline Styling
HTML Code:
<body style="background-color: #ff0000">
Internal Cascaded Style Sheet
HTML Code:
<html> <head> <title>Test</title> <style type="text/css"> body {color: #ff0000} body div.byCLASS {color: #00ff00} body div#byID {color: #0000ff} </style> </head> <body> <div class="byCLASS" id="byID"></div> </body> </html>
External Cascaded Style Sheet
HTML Code:
<!-- HTML Document --> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="include/style.css" /> </head> <body> <div class="byCLASS" id="byID"></div> </body> </html> <!-- CSS Document --> body {color: #ff0000} body div.byCLASS {color: #00ff00} body div#byID {color: #0000ff}

1. locate the HTML file on your desktop (remember location)
2. save the CSS file in the same location (folder)
3. open HTML file and add CSS file to it using link metag (as shown by Nullfied) :

Code:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="YOURSTYLE.css" />

One more thing to note when using css. an element id can only be used once per page whereas a class can be applied to an infinite numbers of elements on the page.

can't help you.... i can't see your markup. sorry.... I even posted 3 examples of how to implement css, one of which was of external style sheets. Since you continuously fail to post your markup, I will now put this thread to rest.

kickerplays,

Open your page in code view.

Edit in the top bar then Select All.

Right click and select Copy.

Come here, click the post reply or Go Advanced buttons. Don't use the Quick reply box when you first come back to the thread.

For HTML
-click the button above the edit box that looks like this < >.
-Put your cursor in between the tags produced then Right click/Paste

For your external CSS
-click the button that looks like #.
-Put your cursor in between the tags produced then Right click/Paste

Now, if you are absolutely sure you added the link to the external CSS file correctly (double checking the path) and it's not working, did you double check to see if you left some internal CSS in the head and/or some inline CSS in your HTML elements?

CSS is applied as follows:
- External CSS file
- Internal CSS (styles in the head section of the page) override the external CSS file
- Inline CSS overrides both of the above

i.e. the browser applies the styles in the order it reads them. The last style instruction it reads is the one it applies.

Try changing <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="main css" /> to:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="main.css" />

Be sure that main.css actually exists and contains your styling.
