Server recommendation for my website

Hello,

I have a forum website(invision board) and need some inputs to select a dedicated server.
My forum has 8 million posts (Including posts and topics) in total.
Right now i am using Xeon 5260 2 bay chaisis
12 gb ram
400 gb SD
I just want to know how can we determine the server configuration ..based on what factors?
Current issues i am facing is database table crashes....

Thanks

Hi Gullible,

The first step would be to determine what is causing the database crashes - is the CPU or the ram usage.

Are you able to provide the CPU usage and RAM usage? Also does the database crash at random times or during a task such as backups?

What OS are you currently using?

Which control panel?

What location is the server currently located and do you require a managed or unmanaged server?

Thanks for your reply.
CPU: 2 vCores
As you can see, my RAM requirements are: 12 gbs of ram
Linux OS
Server location: US
Think that managed server would be good for me.

HI Gullible,

Thank you for your reply,

Are you able to provide actual CPU usage and Ram usage - you should be able to see this in the logs on in the control panel you are using. If you are maxing out either or both then this could be cause of the database crashes.

@Gullible It looks like you are on a virtualized instance as you said "vCore" above. Virtualized instances, especially one provisioned from a VMware powered Cloud infrastructure would work great. However a any good bare-metal dedicated server with 8 Cores (1 CPU) or 16 Cores (2 CPU) and 32 GB RAM would be a solid solution. I'd also suggest you to go for a RAID 1 should you choose a bare-metal server.

What is your budget?

What is the max budget you have?

I was with cloudways for 2 almost 3 years with zero issues. They have many plans.

I think you need more ram up to 24 gb and use raid 1 or better raid10 if you have money for it .

What software you use? apache nginx, what php ? Did you install Xcache or Memcache ?
