Ok, ok - I apologize. You set yourself up for that one, though. If it wasn't me running with it, undoubtedly it would have been someone else.

Now, back to poison drinks and intestinal worms!

MC reply

I too am doing the MC diet... i started my night by drinking my smooth move tea (its a laxative tea)... as the book states... in the morning I will drink my saline wash and begin drinking my lemonade (which trust me it isn't that bad... I've had it before... its lemonade just with a little bit of pepper... Im sure you've eaten something and then had lemonade right after...) I only plan to do the diet for 14 days and will keep wit the routine... drinking 60-80 oz of lemonade a day and using the tea at night and the wash in the morning. I saw the post about coming off the diet... one isn't suppose to just stop this diet... u do risk gaining whatever weight back. In the book it is a list of foods and drinks that you can begin to have with a "schedule" of sorts so you know when to have what and how many days after the diet you can eat certain things.

One thing I am keeping in mind is that this isn't a weight loss program... this is a detox as the book states... so Im not really looking to do anything but clean out my system... which seems to have similar consequenses as anyother detox.

The human body does not need a detox diet, it has its own natural way of detoxing which has evolved over many millions of years. Look up what the liver is for. Think of 'detox diets' and P.T. Barnham in the same sentence and you might be able to tell why you need to take a very large pinch of salt with what you hear about them.

What your body needs is fresh healthy food, water, rest and exercise. It really is that simple. Stop torturing yourself you masochist.

OK, I'll help ...

“What is the liver for, anyway?”
The liver has several functions that it is required to do in order for survival. The liver detoxifies poison, cycles carbohydrates/proteins/fat to keep the body and brain nourished, activates hormones/enzymes/secretions in the body, cleans and makes plasma in blood, and stores critical nutrients.

Sorry I haven't posted an update in a while...

So it's day 8...I've managed to stick with this thing and so far have lost 9lbs...HOWEVER...I've gotten pretty sick. About day 4 I started to feel some flu like symptoms, but didn't give much thought about it. Then by day six, I became pretty sick. Being sick has actually helped me get through the cleanse since I haven't had much of an appetite. Trying to stick to this cleanse, I avoided taking any flu medicine but I am now to the point where my whole body aches and I'm maintaining a fever. So by recommendation of my doctor, I am going off the cleanse today and will begin eating soup and taking anti-biotics.

I can't say whether or not the cleanse had anything to do with me getting sick, but I'm sure it didn't help prevent it. I did lose 9lbs. and will most likely lose a couple more over the next couple days...but this cleanse was tough. I wanted to give it a shot since it intrigued me so much...and now that I have...the intrigue is gone and I will most likely never attempt this again.

Sorry to hear the news, hope you feel better soon.

No food means your body does not have the strength or nutrients to fight off any infections effectively.

Get well soon.

Get healthy, then lose weight by eating slightly less calories and exercising more, live an active life, play a sport, go running, anything but sit infront of computer all day, ...

Hang on, what am I talking about , that's what I do. Maybe that explains it.

I have to say I agree with many of the points here regarding this diet, in terms of slowing the metabilsm down and the body starting to store fat as it thinks it's going into a "starvation period" and also the fact that the weight would be put back on after the 10 day period was over, and that the diet itself is not exactly nutritious...however I think the point is missed that this is a detox diet....the purpose being to cleanse the body of toxins and other harmful substances accumulated over the years of a typical western diet. I would say this is more of a cleansing diet with the by-product being weight loss, and the disadvantages of not taking in the necessary nutrients seems to be only for a short term (10 days) and the results may outweigh the cons.
