Uses for toilet paper cores ;)

Thread created for G10.

So, what are the uses you have put toilet paper cores to, or what uses can you think of for them? The same applies to paper towel cores, wrapping paper cores, aluminum foil centers, and so on.

I'm afraid my uses are not so very exciting. I'm tempted to leave this blank until (and if) I get some replies, but I guess I'll give.

I used to toss most of them into my daughter's gerbils' cages. Sometimes I'd pack them as tightly as I could with soft bedding material in order to give the little critters something to do besides just chew through them. Foil and other heavy cores and better because they last longer, as are longer ones like wrapping paper tubes.

And last year I saved them for quite some time to fill with potting soil and use as seed-starting pots that would dissolve when planted in the garden soil.

I have one more, but I think I'll wait to see if anyone answers. G10, I want to know what you have come up with.

By the way, the first "you" was meant to be plural, I'd like to know what use anyone has put them to.

@ dariusz88, I think he means AFTER you have used them up

It would be cool to see how far your imagination can go with this, be creative.

How cool are these pair of "toilet paper core" babies

LOL, yes SHE meant after the paper was used. (I guess I seriously need a pic on here, people keep mistaking me for a "he" LOL)

And I can't take credit for the idea, Muddy mentioned it first in G10's thread.

I was just wanting to know what ideas G10 dreamed up ...

In my much younger days, I'd use them for "tobacco pipes."

- Cut a hole the size of a dime near the end of the cylinder
- tape foil over the hole, poke holes in foil with a pin
- put tube to mouth, cover other end with your hand
- light
- clear tube (chamber)

Pretty cool. I used longer ones (paper towels and wrapping paper) to make telescoping single-lens ones with my younger class last year.

They didn't turn out as cool-looking as those though.

In winter season, when the cold wind blows, I would love to throw all these things on the footpath near a countryside. Certainly someone will fire it to gain heat.

They go in the brown bin for recycling along with other cardboard and food waste.

I do remember making telescopes and bincoculars with them when I was younger.

Along those lines ... I know people who stuff them with sawdust and melt parrafin (wax) over the ends, and use them in the fireplace.

I've stuffed them with paper to make the paper burn a bit longer when starting a fire. There's an idea ... I have probably dozens of them saved up, and I WOULD like to make a fire tonight.
