I use it a lot, in fact I just spent several hours implementing breadcrumb, product and review schema markup for a client.

The rich snippets they create are the carrot to make me do it, but there is also the thought that this structured data will help search engines understand who you are and what you do better. And if they do they will send the right people to your website. e.g. LocalBusiness markup will tell them where you are, what you are called, your logo and contact details. All useful stuff to help search engines make decisions.

Schema is the new process of every search engine to sort out the categories for site or for a paragraph. It is an action that will make it smooth for SE to determine about the text, what it contains.

With the help of Schema we are able to create, maintain, and promote schemas for structured data on the Internet, on web pages, in email messages, and beyond.

Schema.org is a collaborative, community activity with a mission to create, maintain, and promote schemas for structured data on the Internet, on web pages, in email messages, and beyond.

Schema.org vocabulary can be used with many different encodings, including RDFa, Microdata and JSON-LD. These vocabularies cover entities, relationships between entities and actions, and can easily be extended through a well-documented extension model. Over 10 million sites use Schema.org to markup their web pages and email messages. Many applications from Google, Microsoft, Pinterest, Yandex and others already use these vocabularies to power rich, extensible experiences.

Schema.org is sponsored by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and Yandex.
schema.org

pawankumarsingh, see the link above. There is different coding for different parts of a web page and depending on the type of page.

So far I have used schema to get breadcrumb links to show in the SERPS.

The collection of database objects is called Schema. It is stored in a data dictionary used to a graphical representation of the database structure. It can be created or altered in a database. In simple words, the structure of the tables and relationships in the database is logical schema.
