Any advice for international multilingual adsense marketing?

I have a website with a set of vocabulary learning games. They're great word games. It's a site that is at or near the top of Google for an array of terms such as "vocabulary".

I've always thought it would be a good site for people who want to learn English.

One day, the light bulb went on and I realized that some of the people who would to "build their english vocabulary" might not be googling for the site in English. So, I found an agency and had them translate our home page describing the site into a bunch of other languages. This was two years ago, I don't really remember how I chose the languages.

This week, I contacted a guy from India asking him whether or translation into Hindi was well-done. It turns out, he doesn't speak Hindi. He speaks a language which I frankly and had never heard of. Bengali. He said it is was the eighth most spoken language in the world. So I looked up the top ten languages in the world and I was amazed by the results. Big surprises to me were that French, Cantonese, and Arabic did not made the list. And two that I had never heard of Wu & Bengali are in the top ten! Here is a list of the top 10 languages in February 1999 according to Ethnologue with the number of native speakers:

1. Mandarin 885 million
2. Spanish 332 million
3. English 322 million
4. Bengali 189 million
5. Hindi 182 million
6. Portuguese 170 million
6. Russian 170 million
8. Japanese 125 million
9. German 98 million
10. Chinese Wu 77 million

BTW, does anyone have any experience with trying to have a site do well in bunch of different languages? I would imagine that to do well in Mandarin, I would need a page properly translated into Mandarin (which I have) and loads of links in from relevant sites in Mandarin using appropriate anchor text.

Any advice? (BTW, the site in question is the vocab one in my signature)

Following is the modified latest list:
1) Chinese / Mandarin 1,213 millions
2) Spanish 329 millions
3) English 328 millions
4) Arabic 221 millions
5) Hindi 182 millions
6) Bangla (Bengali) 181 millions
7) Portuguese 178 millions
Russian 144 millions
9) Japanese 122 millions
10) German 90.3 millions

The above is for native speakers. If you count second language speaking then Egnlish will be #2 and Hindi will go to up position as well.

I visited your site Vocabulary.co.il . It's a good site. I see it's #2 for vocabulary on google.com.bd. That's good.
I may help you to translate your home page in Bangla.

Great question on translations. Yes, they were done by individuals, not computers. As the quality, what do you think? Any native speakers?

Are these pages translationed well?
