Easyarticles,

I think one of the biggest risks (assuming someone isn’t doing things they shouldn’t be) is that of over optimization. Some people are so gung-ho about getting their site optimized that they do it too much and end up making themselves look bad in the eyes of search engines.

Here is some more info on overoptimization,

Best,

Shawn

I agree, over-optimization is the main risk and people don't realize it until they get penalized.. other thing is not continuing or maintaining the flow of your work, SEO needs continuous works which is really too hard for newbies to work on continuous basis they lose their heart and they change the method/process..

Hi,

Yes over optimization could be risky, because you can't assume that when you get positive result. Even you don't know how much optimization you need for a site.

Over optimization. I have seen more people penalized for this than anything else.

There is nothing risk in SEO, Its totally Depends upon Google Algorithm, Right now Google Says only 3-4% Keyword Density is required you do like that and certainly you came to know that Google Decrease this limit to 2% and spam your website.

Risk mostly occurs at GWT Parameters for me as sometime google bots told that they wont crawl and index pages but in actual they does it and we need to remove it manually

SEO is getting more complicated day by day especially after panda / penguin update...

What to do and what not to do? I don't think too much of it, I just care of original content, attempting white hat seo techniques, less quantity more quality..

When I have a new project to work upon, I would usually start with Directory and SBM submissions. After all the criticism for these two tasks, I still find that it helps in bringing keyword ranking if it is a completely new project.

But again, since I know these tasks are now a low quality submission, there seems always an unsurity that when would Google start punishing.

I think the main risk now a days is people wants to optimize their website for Search Engines. Now a days we are thinking too much of search engines. Rather we should think about Users. If users like your website, search engine will definitely likes your website too. Its as simple logic.
