hello, I would suggest to maintain relevancy of images with the content. Also, its better to put a image in the beginning of content. Proper use of images with content can drastically increase visitors interest to spent more time on respective webpage.

Additionally, fresh and unique image are more fruitful as compare to randomly picked image from other websites.....

Also, you can also use image as "banner link" to redirect to some other relevant webpage....I have seen it in some websites but had never used for personal experience.

thanks
Shiv

Hi
To me optimize images in SEO, I often use this way: title, description, alt should include all keywords. And it is really useful.

Over use of Image will surely make your ranking go down for sure and thus I recommend to maintain Image/Text ratio for your every post. Else it will spoil your other SEO efforts.

All I do is make sure the file is named something relevant, and that the alt tag of the image is also either relevant to the image, or the content that the image is part of. Alt tags are also a SEO indicator for Google so by using your alt tag to benefit the content of the actual post, as opposed to the relevance of the image, may be more beneficial.

<i>Use quality image to appeal user
<ii> Use compressed image for better user experience
<iii> Use descriptive file name like if its Canon sx50 use image file name like canon-sx50.jpg

<iv>Place image related keywords around image
<v>Describe image in alt tag (short description of image)

Yes it may help in seo as you can place keywords in alt tag and also it can bring some traffic via image search.

Have keyword rich file names, add relevant keyword optimized alt & title attributes for all images. Have descriotion about the image around it, the text should clearly describe what exactly the image is about. Have a clear & relevant heading (H1) and sub heading (H2). Link images to relevant pages etc if it makes sense. Have embed codes for the images when it makes sense to help the users easily embed the same image on their site. Add brand name and logo at the bottom if its an infographics to get brand visibility and to create brand awareness. These are the major image optimization techniques.
