VPS Reseller

What's the best way to go if you want to offer VPS plans?
Is reseller better or is it better to get your own server and set up your own?

Personally, if you are already experienced with managing your own server and already have customers asking for VPS packages, I'd go with a dedicated server (or colo) and setup my own VPS machines.

Otherwise, try googling "white label vps" or something like that. I believe there are providers out there that can help you.

Best going on your own. Going via a reseller can prolong support requests as in most cases you play the middle man.

Get your own server, if you go with white label make sure there support is fast and accurate.

Look at your current usage of resources and double it at least, triple is even better because coming half way through the month and running out of bandwidth is probable the worst thing you can do for your website.

There are pros and cons.

Having own server means: need to know the ins and outs. Need to deal with the risks of managing, staff etc... A lot more things to deal with.

Reseller means: no control over the servers, can easily get kicked out - basically the middle man as said. However a lot less overhead, risks financially, etc...

Depends on what do you want to do.

Can you just backup your response with reason's why it's better?

It would be nice if you compaired vps vs dedicate server so other members know the big difference.

Dedicated:
- Full control
- 1 layer less of escalation
- You decide on the specs vs plans etc...
- Better support (if you can provide it)
- More profit
- More time/effort required

Resell VPS:
- More locations / flexibility
- No long term commits
- Less profit
- Less issues / support - can pass on to the actual host
- Less time/effort required

Its not bad idea to start with the reseller but you need to be active enough to provide support. As you will need to contact your host if the problem is on the server where you do not have access.
