Post How to veriffy an inc. company exist and proofs?

Hello,

it appears that there are people repeatedly hosting fake company websites on my reseller server.

I want to ask here if anyone can help add link on some official index of USA companies. I mean i can search whether such company really exist and see its details.

Also i want to ask what kind of proofs i can ask so i can veriffy certain person has rights to run such company website?

Thank you

To the best of my knowledge incorporation records are maintained at the state level so one would need to know the state of incorporation. A quick Google search for "incorporation records" shows that much of that information is available online. Those records are usually maintained by the Secretary of State office.

One note regarding this matter. A company official business address may not match the state of incorporation. So it may be hard to find out exactly where the company is registered. There are a lot of companies that prefer to incorporate in Wyoming or Nevada because of taxation reasons.

Don't worry because there are lots of company that can can veriffy certain person has rights to run such company website. But most of the times they do not easily get found and runs the fake inc company. There are many reasons behind this issue.

If you are searching for some company online, this is so hard to get if this company is fake. You should be clever in Google search for this.

My first thought was to ask for a business phone number and business address, then google it to see if it checks out. Small home-based businesses may not be able to provide this though.

I found a few other good ideas on this site : http://www.ehow.com/how_4714694_iden...s-website.html

Fly-by-night scammers. They set up a website to appear like a legitimate company (including fake company name and a few fake details about the company), take money for non-existent products or services that they have no intentions on delivering, then disappear when enough people start complaining. I don't blame the OP for not wanting to sell hosting to these scum.

Plus if it happens too often, the OP could even get a bad rep for it (just like some hosting companies have a bad rep for allowing too many spammers to use their servers).

If you are running a legitimate operation you have to check your clients more and more frequently. Resellers can make a fair amount of revenue but they do have to watch for those who can damage the reputation of their own company. There are many scams and spam operations so it is important to verify your clients to some extent if you suspect issues. Unfortunately, some of these operations are very clever.

The SEC is only useful for finding info on PUBLICLY TRADED companies. I doubt many of these are using shared hosting. Until the OP says otherwise, I think it's safe to assume they're mostly dealing with privately owned companies.

Have you considered that they may be sole traders and as a result don't need to be registered like a LTD/Inc may do?

You can check their Corporate Records.
Each state in USA has a Link where you can check the data.
