For anyone to give you valuable information we would need to know more about the store you wish to create.

How big of a site do you want to start with?

How big of a site do you want to build it into?

Actually i think WordPress and megento is for different uses. I think when you create blog then you can use WordPress easily and for eCommerce website you can use megento. But overall i think WordPress is very easy program from Megento.

Hi There

Wordpress is for creating blogs & websites. talking about the eCommerce part there are third party plugins like woocommerce which help us to built a store in wordpress.

Magento is a full-fledged ecommerce platform for building ecommerce sites.

Again its depends on the requirement that which framework/cms to be choosen. Both are having there equal positions in there target segments.

Happy Coding!

Shopify, I used to use Wordpress and many of it's eCommerce plugins for my clients, but now Shopify has really proved to be one of the best eCommerce sites to develop with. You'll find that the liquid tempting engine that is used to make themes for the site is very easy to learn and to work with in general. The themes that are available are full featured and elegant, many of the clients I've swiped over have had nothing but positive results. If you're the developer, you can get a 20% kickback from whatever you client is paying monthly with the partner program.

Magento is a proper ecommerce platforms.
Wordpress is a load of rubbish rammed in to one piece of software.

But, on to your question, it all depends on what your requirements are.

If you expect a lot of traffic and sales then I'd definitely go for Magento. There's nothing worse than completing your project, having a huge influx of traffic and then realising the software you starting using cannot handle the growth. Magento may be overkill to begin with, but it will definitely save you headaches later on if you need to scale up.

I would suggest you to go for Magento CMS as it's easy handling, user-friendly and SEO friendly too.

That's sort of like saying, "What's better? Grapes or Buffalo wings?" They might both be PHP-based platforms, but they're taxonomically different!

An apples-to-apples comparison is necessary for a productive discussion.

Wordpress and woocommerce (the most popular wordpress ecommerce plugin) are ok. It can have problems when you have many variations (i.e. 10 different color shirts, that come in 7 different sizes).

I've recently discovered prestashop, and really love it. You should try it out (it's free).
