UPwork.com Redesigned - Poor Communication To Members
UPwork got redesigned this week. My hired editor left me an email yesterday that our contract was deleted during the redesign. I did not end the contract but UPwork did somehow when converting to the new design/features.
In fact, I could not find one transaction I made to my editor in my account settings, even that was wiped out.
We didn't get an email about this big bug at all. That's poor business decisions.
So I had to search for my editors name, and recreate a contract for her to approve when she checks her email this morning so she can begin working again and log hours on there.
I'm pissed about the contract being wiped out and even the previous months of transactions made to her. I document everything.

I'm not sure how you stand in the US, but in the UK you have rights about such things. Data collection is protected and if a company loses data then they are liable. What did they/do they outline in their privacy policy etc?

The US is far more lax about data collection and privacy than the UK, and the rest of the world for that matter. Consumer protection is very limited in that regard. There's likely very little you can do other than submit a complaint and threaten to take your business elsewhere.

I did complain and using freelancer as my editor and I agree'd to do the contract on there after talking a little longer.
I forgot I had an account on there website. Turns out I've been a member since 2010 and the address used was 7 years out of date.

I checked their T&C's and they exonerate themselves of anything and everything where data collection is concerned, which would be illegal in the UK. US company!

Why would one rely on just this site to keep records? Don't you guys keep your own records offsite like on your own computer?

I kept the contact but not the transactions.... Yea, learn the hard way on that one.
The payments went through them.

In the UK its a legal requirement for any company to have all the records of every input you make via their site, and they also have to have them backed up externally. So it's overkill keeping more than print off's of receipts/invoices etc.
I personally keep records too though as I have OCD when it comes to this sort of thing.

The active contract was deleted. A previous contract I ended after service was done was still in my account (with different person). That was the strange part, the active gone but ended ones still there.
