I have read the articles. I think the 9 reasons why we should not use CMS are true. I also experienced those things when I used CMS.

CMS make it easy for users to post content. I don't think there is something wrong using CMS. I personally use Wordpress CMS and I liked it very much

I agree with some of this, but I think overall, using a CMS generally makes life easier for all involved. I think the bigger question for me is which CMS to use. When I was freelancing, I had developed my own CMS, which has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, but it's always a question I have, that if I were ever to get back into freelance web design, whether I would use my own, or switch over to wordpress.

I think a nice CMS would be one that can accommodate for simple websites, where a fully bloated CMS isn't really needed, but can also be used for the larger projects with the addition of more robust features (and could also grow with the client as needed). I think many people just use wordpress or some other system because it's what they know how to use. Perhaps if you could use the same system for everything, but be able to set how robust (and bloated) you want it to be, that could be a good answer.

I think the author makes good points of why clients shouldn't believe they can fully manage their whole website, design, etc just because they have a CMS. Plugins and the ability to copy and code from the web can be dangerous for non-tech people to install on their website. But regarding the SEO point, I believe its best for the actual site owner to learn about SEO, other than some SEO that can be built into the theme.

For example, a wedding blog owner would know more about weddings, and related keywords to weddings and use them more naturally in their articles than a webmaster. They should write the content, but the webmaster should manage the code.

My old WP sites I done for clients have just spammed my site with about 5k backlinks so I've been penalised.

Good tip, never backlink a WP site in the footer/header etc.

I updated my sites so I have no idea why.

If its just a site of 2-3 pages then HTML will do but for any medium size website 10+ pages I would definitely go with CMS. I am comfortable with wordpress.

Thread is about 2 years old. I know things have changed a lot between now and then. If I find something similar in a way, I'll start a new thread.
