nook hd issues

I've had a nook hd 10" for just under a year now. At6 this point it is reduced to being an mp3 player. It gets soooooooo slow. takes upto a minute to open an app or webpage. Ive done a number of resets onit. even with no extra apps installed it gets bogged down. All of the google apps take up my memory anf i have never even used them.

any suggestions?

If I am not wrong then it is a 1GB RAM device.
Yes, sometimes the 1GB RAM devices are problem in terms of performance when you have installed many applications on the device.

If you can ROOT the device and remove the bloatware (unnecessary softwares that come pre-installed on the device) then I will say you can save lots of system space and I guess you will end -up speeding the phone.

Most of the RAM is being taken up by things like google books and play music. Apps I have never even opened. I have been hesitant to root it and remove them as I was once told that removing those apps would make the other google apps non-functionins. I'm not sure I believe that though.

Rooting does not make other apps non-functioning

Rooting does not restrict you to use the other google apps.
I think the following link will help you understanding ROOTING better: What rooting means

After rooting you will be able to remove this apps.

If you don't want to ROOT then I think you still can disable these unused apps in Settings > Apps

All of my phones are rooted, so I can't even experiment if you can disable pre-installed apps on a non-rooted phone or not.
