How to select a domain name

I have read around a lot on how to choose a domain name for your brand but do you guys suggest me any pointers like should the domain be an EMD. Also having a domain with a hyphen...will it have any negative influence on my domain?

Will an expired domain name give me the extra link juice to rank on serps?

Any domain can be marketed. The best idea is to determine one that is memorable. I personally do not like hyphens in domains as they tend to get forgotten easily or make it more difficult for some to type in when they are trying to visit your domain.

There are arguments on exact match domains for and against as well as hyphens etc. The point is like I said any domain is marketable. Just take a look at the multitude of domains out there that have no relation to their actual product or service. Example: Monster.com is one such domain. Never would I have considered it for a job search site, but someone did and look at how well it has worked out. Another is Amazon and many others.

Concentrate on marketing your brand it will eventually be worth the time.

It depends on the niche, but EMD and domains with hyphens can be ranked high in search engines. I listened some "SEO experts" that said EMD is history, but if you have quality website, EMD is definitely a plus.

I think a good domain is a short domain and easy to remember.
