I'm fine - no matter how it goes. Even another 2007-8 is survivable because the sun does come up the next day. The beneficiaries will just get less, that's all.

I am just amazed at some of the miraculous outcomes of some stories I've heard over the years - if, that is, they are true.

With a predicted high of 37F, I don't think there will be leaf blowing going on here today.

He can remember what he wants to remember. Where to pee isn't one of them.

Apart from the "where to pee" part, I may resemble that remark.

Have you consulted the wife on the subject?

Brace yourself. It's about time for HTML to pop in with a shopping days report.

I forced myself to go outside yesterday and clear the leaves from the front yard as 48 with no wind was the predicted high for the week. Actually for as long as the sun stayed out it wasn't bad. Now just have to get them to the curb this evening.

I think we did most (if not all) of our shopping online last year. But this year, with many online shopping sites using the postal service for delivery (which could go on strike at any moment), this year it's like the days of old - going to a mall to shop. Good exercise - almost 14,000 steps on Saturday.

I certainly respect that adventure but I would not go to the mall if they were giving stuff away.

The last time I was even close to the mall was about 10 years ago and that did not end well.

If one has to go to the mall (remember, happy wife=happy life?) just make sure to go early. Get there at, or at least near opening time (easy to find parking and before long lineups at the cash registers) and then get the heck outa there by 1pm, before it gets too crowded. Oh ya, do it on a weekday for sure - weekends starting about a week ago are just insane.

I just find it hard grasping that people have all this money to spend. I saw young adults with upwards of a dozen bags or more walking into more stores to buy more! Smh.

I'm waiting for Black Friday to finish off a few gifts for myself. Doesn't matter if they're a little late arriving or not.

Pardon an old cynic. They don't have the money; they have credit cards.

God Bless the foolish; they drive the economy and make it possible for the rest of us to enjoy our lives.

My son mentioned to me last week he wished they had a class back when he was in grade 12 that discussed life as an adult. Buying real estate, renting, mortgages, credit cards, finances, investing, RRSP, and more. I completely agree. This is what parents are supposed to teach their kids, but the problem is, apparently we (the "rents") know nothing. Kids only listen when they want, and that is rarely. Paradox.

At the risk of forcing myself to move this reply to the controversial forum let me say,

As a parent I would not want the currently entrenched liberal minds in the public school system teaching my children anything about success in life. They do more than enough damage while failing to teach the R's.

At the time you and I went to school it would have been a good thing.

Unfortunately I had to learn those things in the college of hard knocks and it was while working 3 jobs to make ends meet that I received my master's degree from the college of hard knocks.

At least I learned it.

Our parents were caring, and would give us just anything they could. They didn't have a lot of money, and although they listened to us when were were kids, they didn't teach us much about the real world. Today, in our house, we discuss some local and federal politics with the kids, finances and offer advice on other things in life. They will, however, never learn to put the toilet seat back down - until they get married that is.

My personal take on that is that kids learn more by example than any amount of preaching. Your discussions are good. We did the same thing.

Then when they get out in the world they may not follow the examples they saw but when things don't work out the way they want they often return to what they saw as children.

As for the toilet seat only a really Po'd wife can teach that.

All it takes is one night in the "dog house", and then cured.

We, don't have a real dog house - just a shed in the back corner of the lot. No plumbing, electricity nor creature features. Just one little window and a roof vent.

And right about now, I'm sure there's probably more than just a "critter" or two getting settled in there for the winter no matter how much I try to seal it up!

Postal strike could be good for the malls. And how many treat stops did that 14,000 steps include?

We had to save up our money gifts or babysitting money for misc. stuff we wanted so we learned the value of money. Scriptman is right though, many over extend themselves because they did not learn to save. Even though it is promoted once you leave school to start saving for retirement people still don't do it.

I am almost afraid to eat out from now until mid March because of all the cooties floating around. I got my flu shot today so maybe in a week or so I will venture out.

Have both of you gotten a Hep-A shot? It is a two injection series 6 months apart but you are protected after the first one.

It is becoming a real problem in these parts and we all know how diligently fast food works wash their hands. If it is not there it is on its way to food outlet near you.
