tracking in page views

I was hoping to use menuing like they have on the main image here on this site: http://www.timeout.com/london/

Where you scroll over the link and it changes the main image and content.
However for our company we need it for a set of instructions, going from 1-7. ie 7 "steps". We want it to be appealing and interactive which is why i like the above example

However we also need to see how many people complete all steps and if not where they fall off. We currently use google analytics. is it possible to track this type of "in page" scrolling when the url doesnt change?

Yes. You can fire off a JS event that creates a pageview. For that purpose you might want an event though, not an actual pageview. Here's a guide from Google themselves: http://code.google.com/apis/analytic...ckerGuide.html
