7 Ways to Find Inspiration: Think Outside the Blog

This is a blog post from the Problogger blog. Please read it before commenting.

Quote:
Have you ever wondered how Darren and other A-list bloggers generate so much fabulous content? It just seems to come pouring out: day after day, month after month, year after year, there is a constant flow of information and inspiration. Meanwhile, your well is quickly running dry.

As a journalist, I, too, am called upon to generate new stories day after day. While some of the stories generate themselves, most do not. There are plenty of slow news days and, with the advent of the 24-hour news cycle, there is almost always the need for another good story.

Over the years I have found that my greatest inspiration comes when...

7 Ways to Find Inspiration: Think Outside the Blog

Yes, as you have mentioned A-list bloggers generate so much fabulous content, and gradually they are improving their contents. By improving contents and trying for new thoughts we can get better media coverage. You have shown 7 ways which helps to improve the way we are doing. I am agree with you that we can improve the content by putting efforts in that direction. Inspiration in proper way always helps to many. As beginners we need to think what to write, how to write, and also the audience for whom we are writing. Everything matters.
Inspiration is all around us. We need to find and think about it.

See it. Feel it. Write about it.

Interesting article. It is challenging to come up with great ideas day in and day out. I like to keep up on the headlines, and to keep busy doing fun activities. Those two things provide inspiration, but then I need to brew a pot of coffee to help with the perspiration.

Yeah!
I have the same thing.

And when my head is "blank", I end up unable to sleep for not writing anything for my blog.

At least, the article posted above gives me additional ideas to write on.

Of those, I'd say personal life, conversations and news are the most important. News alerts for lots of things that interest you can be good - though I recently canceled all mine because I usually have too much to write about anyway. For a while, though, news alerts gave me content every day.

Conversations are good but unreliable. Still I'm in the travel niche so talking to people about their travels can give me some good ideas.

I like the idea of referencing your personal life when you blog and my personal travel desires will inspire blog entries. For my football website, this is harder though it's actually how the blog got started as I wanted to share my views on what the Giants should do with their #4 pick in the 2004 draft.

I keep a list of article ideas that I add to constantly. Not all of them are good ideas, and many I'll never write about. But often these ideas spark new ideas.

And yes, coffee helps.

Where to Get Inspiration for Blog Posts

*moderator bump*

Good morning bloggers, where do you get inspiration for your blog posts? Read the blog post below first.

Quote:
I write several blog posts every month -- most of which appear on my own site and here on Search Engine Watch. Most of the time I have no trouble coming up with a topic. After all, I read so much that something usually grabs my attention.

But some days I'm desperately looking for a topic to blog about. At these times, I might just walk away from the computer and do other things until an idea pops up.

But on other days the Internet is the solution. Here are some of the places you can go to get inspiration for your blog posts.

I usually just check out my stat's and see what niche is getting the most traffic from and try to come up with something in that niche to write about. Or i just right whatever comes to mind at that time. This week, i will be working on writing a new article to promote my site but i am still working on a outline of what i want to put in the article. Will take me a few days since i am on V7N a lot. lol

Great ideas, thanks for sharing them. We should try to comply by these but find it difficult at times.

For me writers block happens when I'm actually working to hard and get little sleep. I must say I am generally inspired to write, and ideas for new niche related content flow as I'm performing some off handed task like exercising with music, doing household chores, hanging out around water and sun. I guess seeing something triggers a thought and that thought starts to balloon into an entire paragraph or three in my head. My short term memory is pretty bad so the minute I get an inspiration to write I jot it down immediately on napkin, paper notebook, cellphone, or microsoft notepad on my pc. Once I get to my Content manager I just start to write and write and never stop. After I'm done I then look at my daily stats to see what people were searching for that brought them to my site and I might start a new article on that and compare it to my competition to see if they have written anything similar. Of course once I'm done writing it's total proof reading for typos and grammatical errors.

The thing I do for inspiration is just search for adsense success stories in google. It will show thousands of genuine income methods and most of them points blogging.

First, coffee....usually 3 shots of espresso. I manage about 51 sites for my company with a team of people. It's hard to come up with fresh content and blog ideas for that number of sites all the time. When our team is planning our strategy for content, we review Google Analytics keyword queries to our sites. After all, if a user is typing it in the search engine and it's bringing them to your site often enough, then you should be providing sufficient information for the user. This will also help to bring your bounce rate down as well. What I mean is if you see that a specific keyword phrase is bringing a lot of traffic to your site but the bounce rate seems to be really high, chances are, you're not providing the information the user is looking for. So they leave within the first few seconds of arriving.

Google Alerts are another great way to get content ideas and keep up with your target keywords.

I have a digital recorder app on my phone as well. When I get ideas, I record them.

Cheers!!

Lisa

Yeah being always within a certain environment sticks the thoughts in your mind. Refreshment is to be found from somewhere outside thу blog and outside the thoughts you have had for a certain period of time.

Get yourself a cheap, small digital camera. Take it with you. When you see something that could be included in your blog take a photo. Take the photo and write about it. A picture paints a thousand words - and you only need 250 or 500 for a blog post.
