How do I get AdSense income from a site with no text?

I took over a site a while back which has been getting really good traffic, all by itself. I maintained it for a week or so, but it's getting a couple of hundred organic visitors even since I stopped maintaining it. The problem is that I have no idea how to monetize it properly.

I run two adsense image ads on every site, and I am getting clicks with a decent EPC. However, since the site is nothing but an image blog, hardly any ads are showing up. I do like the adsense model, but as I understand it I'd need at least some text on the site to get the ads to show up regularly, right?

Could I just sticky a post to the top with some text matching keywords and get better results, or would that be breaching the adsense TOS? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You really need to have some content on each pages to make the ad's match the content on the page. Posting a sticky would not help out that much because that's all the content on that page.

Can't you put a brief description under each image on your blog? That would help a little better with more content on the page. Just think about this. What adwords advertiser's be eager to slap a ad on your blog with nothing but images?

Yeah, Adsense determines what kinds of ads are shown according to the content of the page, if you don't have any real content then that makes it difficult and irrelevant ads are going to continue to show.

Since it's an image blog I would go with snakeair's suggestion and put at least some sort of captioning or something with each image, maybe a description or something. On the sidebar of the blog you could maybe had a about section describing the blog and make sure you mention some of the keywords you want to use.

Thanks for the replies. That was what I was thinking, actually. It's hard not to make it spammy, since the users continually re-visit the site because they enjoy the images posted - which would make any text on the site actually adwords spam. I'll try to cook something together to feed Adwords a bit.

You might try adding some ALT text to your images as I know google indexes that information. At the very least add some footer text with some relevant keywords and do some link building with keyword rich anchor text. Hopefully google will have enough information to assign your site to a category.

Even though the site is image based, you need not restrict the ads by type. If you allow both image and text ads, there is a lot more possibility of ad slots getting filled. Google will identify your topic from page title, keywords and whatever little text is available, you need not add text to the page just for adsense.

hey there. your topic caught my eye as i was just looking for ways to monetize a site like this for a friend. i realize your topic is requesting adsense income via your site. so ill touch a bit on that.. what i say may not be so helpful but the last part might be

1 - maybe try to find a php programmer to create a program that will auto generate a description of your photos based on the name of the image? "<image name> is a picture taken from <category name> and is available as a wallpaper"... ok thats a horrible description but you get my point? then you'd have atleast some text there.

2 - i ran across http://gumgum.com/ i've never used them but they do in-image advertisements. good luck mate

Have you SE optimized the images in your blog. If not try to add the tittle and caption in every image with your desired keyword

Adding description would be your best bet in case of an image only blog. as someone already suggested above, you can also add "alt" tag to add text to your images. Google makes use of "alt" to index images in Google images. adding a "sticky" on top of the page doesn't makes much sense because that would be same on every other page of your blog however, if you can add some unique text on every page than that would really help you.

The best thing to do is put an image discription on each page and then you will target more ads. Just whatever you do, don't put invisible content becuase google will punish you for that.

Well, you really have to face it. You got to add more text content to your site to be able to monetize your site properly.

Try adding some keywords related to the images, so google can show up the relevant ads.

Adsense is targeted to the content on your site.

If your site is just an image blog, chances are you won't have any ads and the ones you do get will be poorly targeted.

I highly suggest posting a description about your image blog on a few pages to make it easier for adsense to understand your content.

Thanks for all the answers. I've fully added an alt-text to the images and hope to see better results and value for my ads now. The problem is that it's a semi nsfw-site (no porn, just "funny images"). No real value, just lots of traffic...

I suggest you to add description to every photo in your blog. Then you will have some ads.
