Red face SEO 301 Redirect Question.

So I did a blog post on one of my websites (websiteA.com) and I got some good backlinks and am ranking on the first page of Google for a handful of terms.

If I move the article over to a different website of mine and then do a 301 redirect on just that specific article over to websiteB.com, will those backlinks get attributed to website B? I know if I redirected the entire site that it would, but I'm curious about 1 specific article/page. I realize I may lose those exact ranking positions since Website A and Website B have different backlink profiles etc, but I would prefer to have WebsiteB boosted from the backlinks etc.

Any Thoughts? I appreciate it!

this page will be recalculated according context of whole new site. Of course, first month may you not feel differences. You have some risk go down as well as make "stronger" position.

Redirected backlinks can be weaker ... but i heard successful examples, when traffic was not lost.

301 redirects are on a URL to URL basis. The PageRank associated with the source URL will mostly get transferred to the destination URL, as long as Google deems the destination represents the same content as the source.

So it sounds like it will work in your case.

Why do you want to redirect if you're trying to go with same content? Anyways the ranking of DomainA will fall(or vanish) for a period of time then again resume as DomainB

I used 301 redirects on a site very recently without any ranking change. In fact, the new domain had better ranking, pretty much right away.

301 redirect is to pass on the link juice and sending signals to google that your page has moved to different location. There will be some hiccups but all will be well. Don't worry.

301 redirection will affect the ranking of your website A, and after a month and so it can again be on the top position for website B also.
