Is it normal that rankings drop when you switch hosts?

Is it normal that rankings drop when you switch hosts?

I recently moved my websites to a VPS, from a shared host.
SSL certificate changed.
And my rankings have dropped since.
Is it possible that rankings dropped because of server host change?

If yes, then how long does it normally take to regain ranks?

Google has never confirmed it, however it is widely known that Google actively penalizes content at the level of the hosting provider. - So the IP addresses your Current VPS is on could have been on a blacklist in the recent past or currently. Or the IP Range and Google could be putting a black mark against your site.

Check your IP's against know spam blacklists to make sure they are clean and also do a search in Google for your IP's - "" to see if they have been part of any abuse in the past.

I know you are on a VPS now and a shared hosting before, so general your site should be faster, however do a speed test still to make sure your loading time is low as this also effects rankings in Google.

How much of a ranking drop are we talking about?

Yes its normal

Google never confirms it but it's very normal. I have 37 blogs and it has always happened to me whenever the IP address of the domain has changed.

Well, from my personal experience, what I have experienced is that whenever you make some major changes in your website or a particular page, you can see a drop ranking for around 2-3 months. But if content is same or as good as original, you will get back your ranking.

Probably google waits to check out if new changes is stable content or not, like in case of new websites which takes few months before they start ranking well.

From my personal experience, they go down for a while. All I did was submitting sitemap to GSC and things got back real soon. Yes, for an entire month traffic went down as well as rankings.
