What happens if your external hard drive goes bad, you get hit with something like CryptoWall 2.0?

What does that software protect you from? Does it protect you from a HD failure? Please add some details to your replies.

I personally Backup all images on cloud, either on dropbox or your Google Drive and all , Apart from having a DB Backup in my home computer.
We in today's world have to preserve our pictures.

Most of my files and documents are saved to an online cloud site, though many are also backed up on USB drive. I have started using the external and USB drive option more often recently after losing my hard drive this past year. I had so many useful and needed business files on my other computer and they were lost. I was able to recover my business files from copies stored elsewhere but the photos are gone forever.

I would say just putting your files onto Google drive would be enough, this is what I do.

I use USB, portable hard drive. Moreover, I'm trying to utilize Onedrive - Google Drive - and Drop box. They offer lots of space and I can work with any computer.

I have no protection for all files, but the most important back up and document are always stored in my back up hard drive.

You can use some cloud data services, dropbox, google drive, one drive, copy.com, surgarsync.... or you can burn it all to dvd and keep it carefully.

While that may be right, the question was "What methods do you use and why do they make you feel safe?", so what do you use and why does it make you feel safe?
