I just broke 200 followers, 201 to be exact.
I got that much in like... a week. It's really easy to get followers. Now I don't even advertise my Twitter account, they just keep following me. It's pretty intense.

I hit the limit of 2000 and I have to unfollow some of them when I have to add a friend.

When I first started I have tried to follow as much as possible.
However more important is those people to be related to the work you do.
E.g. if you're a marketing person you should be looking for SEO, marketing professionals etc.

Anyone can get thousands of followers.
But that would just be a number to brag about.
It is the followers that actually read your tweets, who interact with you, that are the best.
I would rather have fewer followers that do the above than thousands who just follow to follow.
Never read tweets, heck, a lot of people get on twitter and follow people, and never post any tweets themselves.
So, you can go for quality of followers, the best road.
Or quantity of followers, just for bragging rights.
