That is true... You need to have a large network & actively engage them in conversations.

Do not spam people with link after link. I have had some followers who have had no etiquette and just spam you with their affiliate links that I have a phobia of opening links now...

This is the main problem in twitter I guess...Spamming. Everyone thinks that by putting their links in a row will get them huge traffic. I personally avoid such tweet who do this. You should be accurate and unique to advertise your site in twitter and that will really drive good traffic.
