promoting via facebook

i have this idea of creating a forum basically for young people with trending / controversial topics ranging from entertainment to lifestyle to politics etc , i feel good about it and i believe it would pull lots of traffic however i plan on promoting it through facebook target ads and then as others come in they would invite their friends and then i would convert the traffic to profit . Now my question is this . Which is the most affordable and effective way of promoting something like this on , is it either facebook CPC or CPM ad option ?

CPC probably would be better. CPM could end up to be very expensive since they have huge pageviews.

I would highly doubt on the outcome of facebook campaign though.

I did some ads on facebook and found it hugely expensive, even though i geo targeted a specific area and demographics.

I went through $100 in 3hrs.

Conversions were zero, traffic was qualified. This may of course be a problem with promoting my site and not indicative of the advertising medium itself.

Cheers.

Do you mean expensive as in it cost more than other advertising mediums or because you spent $100 in 3 hours for zero return?

promoting via face book is fantastic given the fact that the FB is now the number one website in most countries. However, to get real value for money. You need to use CPC, that will give you an assurance that some one has seen what you are promoting by the fact of a click

This thread is not about adwords but it's about facebook ads. The OP is trying to target a young audience and a ton of young people use facebook daily for many hours. What's your feedback on using facebook ads to target a certain audience?
